I met Kelsi and her family down at MacDonald Wood Park in Comox a few weeks ago. We couldn't have asked for a better evening to take photos, the weather was perfect. Mya, in true 7 year old fashion wasn't terribly interested in taking photos so we made a little game of it. She took some shots of her family with my camera then she joined them for me to take a photo of all of them. I sense a future photographer in the making as she was very clear about her vision for her shots and directed her family accordingly. I had a lot of fun showing her how to use my camera.
My sessions are very relaxed and I just go with the flow of your family. I find the more you force children to sit and be still the more they resist. I often hear parents say they don't have family photos because their children won't sit still and the thought of trying to get them to sit for photos is stressful. I have a 1 year old and 4 year old, neither of which are interested in sitting for photos so I GET IT! I want your session to be fun and stress free.
So, now that we aren't going to stress about the children sitting lets talk about the best time of day to take your photos. One of my first suggestion for new clients is to take photos in the evening as the light is so soft and beautiful at this time. These photos illustrate that gorgeous "golden" light perfectly. It can be a little tricky with younger children in the evening but if you can make it work between naps and feedings its so worth it! Having said that of course we can take photos whatever time of day works for your family. At the end of the day we want everyone to be happy, fed and rested.
